Passing through the control areas: systematic checking of Tunnel access conditions for heavy vehicles
Heavy vehicles, before entering the Tunnel, must receive authorization at the
regulation and control areas of Passy-Le Fayet (France) and Aosta (Italy).
Their compliance with tunnel transit conditions is certified by a pass, issued after the dimensions of the vehicle, the nature of its load
(dangerous materials are prohibited), and the European pollution category (transit is prohibited for Euro 0
, i.e. vehicles registered before 1st October 1993) have been checked.
Checking the nature of the goods being carried is the responsibility of the Highway Police (on the Italian side) and the customs service (on the French side).
